How this resource helps
This 5-page worksheet challenges introductory Computer Science students to apply conditional logic in Python through a structured, standards-aligned practice experience. Aligned to NC DPI CS Standards CS.P.1 and CS.P.4 and CSTA standards 2-AP-11 and 3A-AP-16, students begin with a vocabulary pre-teach matching activity covering 10 key terms (condition, Boolean, if/elif/else, indentation, comparison operators, logical operators, nested conditionals, and control flow). They then work through a Lexile-labeled reading passage followed by DOK-leveled questions in three sections: Guided Practice (DOK 1-2), Independent Practice (DOK 2), and Extended Thinking (DOK 3), culminating in a code design challenge. A student self-check checklist and scoring summary table are included. The separate 4-page teacher answer key provides complete vocabulary answers with teaching tips, question-by-question scoring rubrics with sample responses and common error notes, exit ticket prompts, a class data snapshot table with 20 rows, and differentiation notes for ELL, EC/Below-Level, AIG, and 504 students. Perfect for whole class instruction, small groups, sub plans, centers, homework, test prep, and early finishers. B&W printer friendly. Single-Teacher License.

Standard or objective
NC DPI CS Standard CS.P.1 Decompose problems and create artifacts using computational thinking. NC DPI CS Standard CS.P.4 Use programming constructs including conditionals and loops. CSTA 2-AP-11 Create clearly named variables and assign values using arithmetic, comparison, and logical operators. CSTA 3A-AP-16 Design and implement an algorithm using conditional logic to solve a problem.
