My View and the Story’s View | Grade 3 RL.3.6 Literature Reading

My View and the Story’s View develops North Carolina Grade 3 RL.3.6: distinguish the learner’s own viewpoint from a narrator’s or character’s viewpoint. This 104-page printable packet includes the complete published Sizwe’s Smile, 687 normalized words, with all 12 original illustrations. Learners express their own reading position while accurately identifying a supported story viewpoint and explaining the relationship. The complete story also appears in other Sizwe resources. These fresh tasks are not new readings or 60 unique scenes/viewpoints. Events and a narrowly modeled opening response recur in this selectable bank. MC examples supply hypothetical reader positions; they cannot establish the learner’s own view. All 30 open opportunities call for actual learner stance, with multiple legitimate positions accepted. Record prior story work, models, choices and support. No independent Grade 3 reading-band certification, guaranteed mastery or unseen-text transfer is claimed.

Required materials: Complete story and source artwork included; no outside book purchase. Ordinary writing supplies and appropriate reading/communication support. Printable nonfillable PDF; no audio, video or editable slides. Accept agreement, difference, qualification or explained uncertainty. Keys do not prescribe a correct personal opinion. No compulsory happiness, smiling, eye contact, gratitude, personal history, mood disclosure, public sharing or reenactment. No dog handling, road crossing or rain walks are assigned. Story magic and warmth are literary portrayal, not a smile cure or scientific weather cause; narrator speech does not prove author beliefs.
