How this resource helps
Combine letter-sound knowledge, syllable patterns and meaningful word parts to read unfamiliar multisyllabic words accurately in isolation and in sentences. This 80-page Grade 5 RF.5.4 packet includes ORIGINAL word/sentence drills, 30 MC checks, 30 reading/response tasks and SIX additional fresh-transfer checks counted separately. Teacher scripts, worked and blank organizers, five-day targets, keys and rubrics are included. The same word read twice is practice, not two fresh baselines; use different locally unfamiliar words for transfer. No published passage, certified reading level or EOG-equivalence claim. Single-teacher classroom-use license for original Saint Pierre instructional material: print and use with your students, including a password-protected classroom platform. Do not resell or redistribute the instructional packet. Contact the store for team licensing. No exclusive rights claimed over state standard identifiers, facts, ordinary language or concepts. NC 2017 RF.5.4 and its single subpart a are current for 2026–27; no DPI endorsement or upcoming 2027–28 adoption-readiness claim. Adult-supplied pronunciations and familiar practice do not establish independent reading. Accept legitimate natural pronunciations and combined strategies; morphology and spoken syllables may have different boundaries.

- Selected seven teaching sections total 80 minutes. The full 60-item bank and individual fresh-transfer conferences require further sessions. Reserve unpreviewed words, check local unfamiliarity and allow accessible reading time; no one-session mastery promise.
- Answer key
- All MC keys, possible chunking/morpheme analyses and contextual meanings included. Accept defensible chunking and legitimate natural pronunciations. Observe actual reading in both settings; a repeated word is not a second fresh baseline. Use different unfamiliar unpreviewed words for fresh isolation/context checks and record support.
