Grade 5 · English Language Arts — Listening, speaker claims and supporting evidence

Summarize Claims and Explain Support | Grade 5 SL.5.3

Summarize a speaker’s main points and explain how particular reasons and evidence support each claim. This 79-page Grade 5 SL.5.3 packet includes six complete ORIGINAL speeches with background notes, simulated observations, vector charts and process diagrams; five-day targets; concrete models; teacher scripts; organizers; keys and assessment guidance. Thirty MC questions supplement 30 open-response/oral-performance tasks. Learners must actually hear accessible complete presentations, communicate their own summaries and explain claim-by-claim support. A list of facts, silent transcript, copied model or choice score alone does not establish the target. Preserve uncertainty and distinguish proposed tests from reported observations. The same six original source speeches A–F, simulated data and companion displays are shared across Grade 5 SL.5.1, SL.5.2 and SL.5.3, with standard-specific tasks and assessment; purchasing all three does not provide 18 different source speeches.

Required materials: Included complete scripts, charts and process diagrams; teacher read-aloud or approved live/recorded presentation, actual display access and communication/observation time. No audio files or outside book are included or required. Provide replay, AAC, interpretation, tactile/enlarged displays or spoken visual descriptions as appropriate; no public recording or private disclosure required. Printable PDF with written scripts and static displays only; no prerecorded audio, editable slides or video is bundled.
