Reason Fairly Across Competing Claims | Grade 7 W.7.1

Develop an argument that acknowledges an alternate or opposing claim and supports its own position with logical reasoning, credible relevant evidence, cohesive connections, formal style and a fitting conclusion. Plan and strengthen the writing with appropriate guidance. This 108-page printable writing workshop includes five daily targets, original models and drafts, seven teacher scripts, blank planning and writing pages, revision/editing records, 30 four-option questions and 30 open-response/writing-process tasks, full keys and a performance rubric. Sources include an original factual paraphrase of EPA paper-saving recommendations, hypothetical classroom trial conditions and an invented unsupported advertisement for evaluation. No EPA article, image or seal is reproduced. The recommendations do not establish local outcomes or numerical savings; no trial or survey occurred.

Required materials: Printable PDF, writing/communication tools and teacher/peer feedback. No purchased book, prerecorded audio, video or editable document is supplied. Extra blank writing pages may be copied for classroom use.

How this resource helps

Assess actual learner-authored planning, drafting and strengthening evidence, not copied models or choice accuracy alone. Document peer/adult guidance without replacing authorship; revisions, editing, rewriting or another approach are used as needed, not a mandatory sequence of every possible route. The 30 open tasks include shorter process checks, not 30 full essays. The bank is reusable familiar practice, not proof of unseen transfer. No public posting, new student account or private personal experience is required. Original writing models are nonliterary instructional examples, not published literature. This paper-reuse source situation also appears in Grade 6 W.6.1; Grade 7 tasks and models target Grade 7 demands rather than providing wholly new source readings. Single-teacher classroom use of original Saint Pierre instructional material with your students, including a password-protected classroom platform; do not resell or redistribute original additions. Contact support for team licensing. Retain embedded-font notices; no ownership of facts, ordinary language or state standards is claimed. Independent alignment to NC 2017 standards applicable in 2026–27; no DPI endorsement, certified reading band or standardized-test equivalence.
