How this resource helps
Help students interpret words and phrases in context, then explain how rhyme and repeated sounds shape meaning and tone—not just identify a device. Students connect a contextual phrase and clue to meaning, identify rhyme AND repeated sounds using cited words, explain each effect and HOW it shapes meaning/tone, and compare a neutral revision. Four complete original narratives embed verse; the 761-word anchor is read once and reused. An optional standalone poem supports later transfer, outside the planned 80-minute core. Warm-up, reading/model, guided work, team work, fresh independent analysis, one simultaneous support/enrichment phase and exit are included. Independent organizer is the final connected performance, not a duplicate essay. Both rhyme and repetition require effects explanations. MC questions are supplemented by authentic contextual analysis, not presented as the entire skill. Core3–15; conditional16–17; blank18–19 OR scaffold20–21 replacements; substitute notes22; optional later poem23; teacher-only24–39. Aligned to exact RL.7.4 and clarification in uploaded2017 NC Grade7 document; contextual figurative/connotative examples supplement, not replace, its rhyme/repeated-sound clause. Original EOG-style practice informed by official-source research; not official, endorsed or an exact test replica. The 2017 North Carolina standards apply in 2026–27. Not endorsed by NCDPI. Planned pacing, not classroom-tested. No formal readability/accessibility/DOK certification or score guarantee. One introductory RL.7.4 cycle with later poetry transfer, not genre-wide or whole-series mastery. PDF only; PowerPoint held for user exemplar. PDF ONLY; no PowerPoint included.
